Fat Pig

by Neil LaBute
directed by Barbara Damashek
EXTENDED to December 13, 2009!
This show is SOLD-OUT.
show length: 1:40
Does size really matter? In this funny yet poignant play, LaBute continues his exploration of body consciousness in contemporary America with Fat Pig, the second in a trilogy that began with The Shape of Things (produced by Aurora in 2002). Traditionally handsome Tom falls for Helen, a bright, funny, sexy woman, who also happens to be plus-sized. Pressured to explain his new relationship to his perplexed friends, Tom must come to terms with his own preconceived notions about the importance of conventional good looks–leaving the audience to question our own capacity to change what we find unattractive about ourselves.
"A provocative hit in New York in 2004... Barbara Damashek's Aurora staging is even richer, funnier and more disturbing." - SF Chronicle (read the full review)
"A delicious exploration of sex, love and body image that makes us swoon." - Contra Costa Times, San Jose Mercury News (read the full review)
"The laughs are abundant... I recommend it highly!" - KGO Radio (read the full review)

Facilitated by Aurora’s Education Director, twenty minute post-show Talk-Backs may include a dialogue with the cast, director, or designers. The opportunity for the group to discuss their reflections on the play they just experienced, as well as, the natural interest of the audience in the actors’ experiences of working on this particular script, often shapes the focus of the discussion.
